Tilgate Dam 2011
Location : Tilgate Park, Crawley, West Sussex
Materials : European Oak
Commissioned by: Environment Agency

Set at one end of the newly raised dam at the meeting point of three paths is Waterlife, a sculpture formed by two curving elements rising up from the ground. On one face are carved a selection of the various aquatic plants found in Tilgate Lake:

COMMON REED – YELLOW WATER LILY – WATER CROWFOOT - PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE – AMPHIBIOUS BISTORT

On the other face a food chain from the lake is depicted: PIKE - ROACH – DIAPTOMUS – DAPHNIA – DIATOM

On the opposite side of the dam are carved oak cappings to three trash posts. The forms are abstractions of aquatic plant life from the lake.
